Ellie C asked:
I work in a bookshop and I can’t tell you how much I HATE IT when people come in asking for our black/asian fiction section. Why? I like that we are finally in an era where we are not segregating in this way. The people that come in are always black or asian themselves.
I myself am half-indian, and have never even thought about asking about a separate asian section. Why on Earth would it NOT be shelved with everyone else? Are they special or something?

What I love is browsing in a bookshop and seeing authors from all over the world on the same shelf.
What’s your opinion on this??
SORRY if you’ve seen this question before, but I didn’t make the headline clear last time!
HUGH JARSIE: You’re quite right, and while we’re at it, we ought to create an English/ American/ Australian/ Chinese/ Japanese/ French/ German/ Italian/ Spanish etc section also?
HUGH: Separated by subject, by all means. Separated by any other format is wrong.
Sorting books by topic is objective; sorting by race/ethnicity is not.
cathrl69: Amen sister!
