No Name asked: Do publishers have to pay bookshops for authors to do signings there, or is it all free to help the shop get more customers?

What kind of coffee machine should I buy for a small bookshop (about 1300 square feet) and I have 4-5 coffee tables sitting around.

MICHAEL P asked: Yes of course we all do but don’t bookshops price themselves out of the market at prices that don’t make sense anymore? We saw a gem of a book yesterday in Waterstones (UK) cover priced at £20. So we went home and sourced the same book for £12.50 on Amazon, brand new, free delivery. So why don’t traditional bookstores discount all cover prices? I am sure sales would soar if books were not priced to scare people off …….. your thoughts please?
