Sarah advertises her collection of rear legal textbooks for sale at £2000. She receives a letter Bookshop a firm of antiquarian booksellers. The letter which is signed by the owner of the firm, Mr Bookshop states that Bookshop would be interested in buying Sarah’s books. Sarah mentions the letter to a fellow collector, Louise who says she has dealt with Bookshop and found them to be a very good firm would pay a good price for the books. Reassured by this advice 3 months later Sarah writes to Mr Bookshop asking him to visit with a view to buying the books. Sadly by this time Bookshop has moved their offices and the letter is opened by a new occupant Mr Hays. Mr Hay’s visits Sarah pretending to be Mr Bookshop using a false Identification left behind by Mr Bookshop. Mr Hay’s offers to buy the books for the asking price and presents a cheque book also left behind by Mr Bookshop. Sarah accepts the cheque and allows Mr Hay’s to take the books away. The bank refuses payment on the cheque.
In the meantime Mr Hay’s sells the books to Blackstone for £500 and Mr Hay’s is no where to be found. Advise Sarah.

I’m not a bookshop or retailer, I’m just a hoarder and need to cut back on my book collection. It’s mostly non fiction. Where’s the best place to sell? Amazon seems geared at more professional sellers!

HENRY G asked:

The booklet will be full colour with photographs all contained within a jewel case with the CD. We want to offer this product to retail shops and possibly major outlets, such as supermarkets, leading newsagents and bookshops. Our retail price will be £15.99 each.
At what price would these retailers expect us to offer it to them?

my mom owns a bookshop, but over the past few months, a lot of books from the shop have been missing, and our saleskeeper recently discovered a shop-lifter. we want to improve our security measures and install security sensors/detectors. also, if you can give us a little info of how the system works/websites we can check out. thanks in advance! :)

I have no idea where to begin. I am the manager of a bookshop and my area manager wants at least 5 points on how to increase profitability in the store including staff turnover. Can you give me some ideas?

A book that costs £8 pounds, in a highstreet bookshop, can be purchased on Amazon for 1p! (£2.76) inc P&P). The same goes for electronic goods and other consumables. This gulf in prices must massively impact upon the profit margins of the non-internet stores.

So how long will the highstreet store be able to compete with websites like amazon for?

Joan R asked:

.. why do the price of books vary so much.
For a book like this -

http://www.amazon.com/Olvina-Flies-Grace-Lin/dp/0805067116

is it better simply to order it from a local bookshop here in the U.K. and if it is not available how can I be sure that it will be “shipped” in good condition and what will be postage be?
Also generally - is it worth ordering something like this online from abroad or should I try nearer to home (suggestions for *children* flying please!) -
