Is there too much music in public places?

go into a resturant or a shop and you will hear loud pop music what ever time of year it is even in the frigen bookshop’s.
Is it necasery for shops and resturants to play music.
I mean when you go out for a meal do you really want loud meangless pop music breathing down your neck.
