My first manga was an older teen (fushigi yugi) and i myself didn’t realise until about the 5th volume, but no-one cared about me buying it - i was about 11/12. Also, it was on the bottom shelf near the kids books.
i dont actually mind because now i’m 14 and most of my fave mangas are 13+ or 16+ (and i was happy with 13+ before 13).
i just think that the people who work @ WHSmith have no ides what they are stocking.
although in borders & waterstones they have a manga section rather than sticking ‘comics’ with childrens books, but i’m obviously not an “older teen” and no-one bats an eyelid.
have you experienced this or is it stricter where you live?
the reason the stuff i read is rated 13+/16+ is generally romance and swearing.
also some serious issues held by some of the characters.
trust me. its NOT just pretty pictures.
the one i said i read at age 11-12,
had a scene when one of the characters walked into his house to find his father and about 7 siblings dead and covered with blood.
i handled it fine, its just no-one objected to me buying it, and i’m thankful i can read the manga i want, because i usually check it out in online reviews first since its quite expensive, so i will know if i will be able to handle it or not.
I’ve read reviews that it’s pretty good, but it’s not on Amazon, not in Borders…I’m not sure where else to look, to be honest. It hasn’t been in any of the bookshops I’ve been to.
Are there any good online sites that have the scanlations possibly? I’m not sure if it’s even been released here in England.
And while we’re at it, any fantastic manga you can recommend? ^__^
