When you’re browsing in a bookshop, what genres of classical music are more likely to lull you into “Buying Mode?”

I work in a small second hand bookshop, and I play a wide variety of classical music CDs constantly in the background. I’m keen to know if there really is a direct link between background music and people’s willingness to part with their cash…supermarkets play their Muzak, of course, which isn’t really my preferred kind of music…obviously I could set up controlled experiments over a period of time…but I’m interested to hear your thoughts on this first.

And what do you think of vocal music when you’re browsing in bookshops? When perusing the written word, do you find that the “sung word” is too distracting? Do you think that instrumental music is better suited for this environment?
